LFRA 2026 Overseas Study Tour Scholarship winner announced

The Large Format Retail Association is pleased to announce Anthony Caltagirone, Head of Construction at Super Retail Group, as the recipient of the LFRA 2026 Overseas Study Tour Scholarship, recognising a future leader making a strong impact on the sector.

Nominated by Sam Pinchbeck, General Manager, Property & Store Development, Super Retail Group, Anthony leads the delivery of projects across four major brands throughout Australia and New Zealand, a role spanning strategy, delivery, and customer experience.

He describes Anthony as “a future leader of the industry” who consistently delivers, combining strong technical capability with a clear focus on outcomes. “He puts the customer at the centre of everything he does, something that’s easy to say in retail, but far more challenging to execute,” he said.

This customer-first mindset is reflected in Anthony’s approach to delivering physical retail environments, ensuring spaces are functional but engaging and convenient for the end user. His ability to bring energy, curiosity and a continuous improvement attitude to his work was also highlighted as a key strength in his scholarship nomination.

The annual Large Format Retail Association Overseas Study Tour Scholarship is designed to support and recognise emerging leaders within the sector. The recipient joins the 2026 study tour to the United States, the sixth, visiting Denver and Phoenix as part of a contingent of 25 sector leaders. The program focuses on exploring Large Format Retail environments, with an emphasis on design, built form, retail concepts, and evolving market trends.

Awarded to a candidate demonstrating strong industry contribution and a clear commitment to growth and leadership, the scholarship provides Anthony with the opportunity to step beyond the local market and learn from global leaders in Large Format Retail.

The program is designed as an immersive experience, offering participating members valuable insight into the future of Large Format Retail and equipping them with perspectives that can be applied to local strategy, innovation and sector growth.

“The Study Tour will provide first-hand insight into how global Large Format Retailers respond to shared challenges such as construction cost escalation, program certainty, sustainability expectations, evolving customer experience requirements, and operational efficiency,” he said.

“The US approach to store design, buildability, materials selection, delivery methodologies, and landlord engagement would allow me to benchmark Super Retail Group’s current practices against global peers and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

“I am looking forward to translating the insights gained into practical outcomes for Super Retail Group by sharing learnings with the teams I lead, including project managers, project administrators, and feasibility managers.”

The Large Format Retail Association congratulates Anthony and looks forward to the insights and learnings he will bring back to the sector.
