Tango Projects joins the LFRA community

Tango Projects has joined the Large Format Retail Association as a Bronze Associate member, bringing over 14 years of experience delivering client-side project management and development management services across Australia.

Founded in Melbourne, Tango has established a strong national presence supporting both institutional landlords and national retailers across a diverse range of sectors including retail commercial, industrial, education and early childhood, aviation, hospitality, and social infrastructure. The business operates across all states with offices in Victoria, Queensland and a small footprint in NSW.

Director Barclay Dixon said joining the Large Format Retail Association reflects Tango’s growing focus on the Large Format Retail sector and its commitment to contributing to the industry.

“Large Format Retail has become a key part of our business,” said Mr Dixon. “We’ve built strong relationships across the sector, working with a range of stakeholders including asset owners, leasing teams, designers, contractors and tenants. This collaborative approach is critical to achieving successful project outcomes, particularly in Large Format Retail where speed to market and cost control are key drivers.”

Tango’s approach is underpinned by deep experience working alongside major brands, developers and asset owners. The company has project managed new support offices (head offices) for many great Australian brands such as LFRA member Bunnings as well as Wesfarmers, Target, Myer, Bunnings, Kmart, David Jones, Cotton On, Flight Centre, Wesfarmers Health, Sustainability Victoria to name a few.

“We see our role as more than traditional project management,” said Mr Dixon. “It’s about providing clear advice, managing risk and ensuring all stakeholders remain aligned to achieve the best possible outcome. This includes early-stage strategy, consultant engagement, procurement, program oversight and project execution.”

The team has delivered projects across new builds, refurbishments and large-scale rollouts, often within live trading environments where stakeholder coordination and program discipline are critical.

This was recognised in 2023 when Tango received the Planet Fitness ‘Supplier of the Year’ national award, adding significant value by reducing capital expenditure by 30% across projects while enhancing the project brief.

Looking ahead, Tango sees continued opportunity within the Large Format Retail sector, particularly in growth corridors and established retail precincts requiring reinvestment.

“There is a real opportunity to unlock value through well-considered upgrades to existing assets, alongside new developments,” said Mr Dixon. “That balance will be an important part of the sector’s evolution.”

Through its Large Format Retail Association membership Tango is looking to further engage with industry peers, contribute to sector conversations and continue to support the delivery of high-quality retail environments across Australia.
