Anaconda opens Australia’s largest purpose-built outdoor adventure store

Anaconda has opened its new Adventure HQ at Brendale, setting a new benchmark for immersive retail experiences.

The flagship destination is Australia’s largest purpose-built outdoor adventure store, spanning more than 6,000 sqm and bringing hands-on experiences, expert advice and leading outdoor brands together under one roof.

Designed around a “try before you buy” philosophy, Adventure HQ gives visitors the opportunity to test products, develop new skills and immerse themselves in authentic outdoor environments before they even leave the store.

From a snow-filled alpine environment and live fishing demonstrations to a life-sized marina and immersive camping displays, the store incorporates a series of purpose-built experiences designed to bring the outdoors into the retail environment.

Interactive attractions include:

  • Snow Cave: A sub-zero alpine environment with falling snow, allowing customers to test snow and rainwear in temperatures as low as -10°C.
  • 40-Foot Barramundi Casting Tank: A giant aquarium stocked with live barramundi, with regular demonstrations showcasing lure action, retrieval techniques and fishing tips. A three-metre saltwater crocodile is positioned above the tank.
  • Interactive Fishing Simulator: A simulator designed to replicate real fishing conditions, allowing visitors to test techniques and sharpen their skills.
  • Immersive Australian Campgrounds: A realistic Australian outback campground featuring a six-metre gum tree, native wildlife, bush sounds and fully furnished campsites, allowing customers to step inside tents and compare different setups.
  • Indoor Marina & Boat Showcase: A life-sized marina featuring fully rigged boat, motor and trailer packages, set alongside a recycled Queensland jetty.
  • Mountain Designs Heritage Display: A display featuring the original Mountain Designs expedition suit worn by Toowoomba adventurer Alyssa Azar when she became the first Australian woman to summit Mount Everest from both the north and south faces in 2016.Anaconda CEO Chris Lude said the concept store represents much more than traditional shopping.

“Anaconda Adventure HQ has been built to let people experience, test and learn about the outdoors before they even leave the store,” Mr Lude said.

“Whether you’re planning your first camping trip, a family holiday, a fishing adventure, or a ski trip, this destination is designed to inspire and educate. We want Anaconda Adventure HQ to be just as exciting as getting out there and having the adventure itself.”

Spotlight Group Holdings Executive Deputy Chairman, Zac Fried, said the concept store reflects a major evolution in how Australians want to shop.

“Anaconda Adventure HQ is really the blueprint for where physical retail is going. People don’t just want to grab gear from a shelf anymore; they want to experience it, test it and be inspired before they buy,” Mr Fried said.

“Investing in Southeast Queensland and bringing a flagship of this size to Moreton Bay area is hugely exciting for us, and we hope it inspires even more outdoor adventures in the region and beyond.

“Anaconda Adventure HQ is also the latest example of Spotlight Retail Group’s continued investment in Queensland, following the opening of eight new stores across the Southeast Queensland region in the past month alone.

The store has created more than 50 new jobs for the local community, marking a major commercial investment in Queensland, serving as both a local economic driver and a flagship milestone for Anaconda’s national footprint.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Anaconda Adventure HQ to Brendale, the gateway to Queensland’s next adventure,” City of Moreton Bay Mayor, Peter Flannery said. “Securing a flagship development of this scale is a massive vote of confidence in Moreton Bay and highlights the sheer strength and growth of our region right now.”

Located on the corner of South Pine Road and Old North Road in Brendale, the store forms part of a $92 million retail precinct and signals a bold shift away from traditional transactional retail towards experience-led shopping.
