Savers doubles down in Sydney with two new thrift superstores

Global thrift retailer Savers® has strengthened its Sydney presence with the opening of two new thrift superstores in Camperdown and Marsden Park, expanding its Large Format footprint in New South Wales.

On 31 July 2025, Savers® unveiled a landmark site in Camperdown – its first-ever three-level format in Australia. Spanning more than 2,000 square metres on Parramatta Road, the store represents a major step for the brand’s Large Format strategy, showcasing thrift retail at scale in an inner-urban location. Positioned near Newtown’s King Street and the University of Sydney, the site integrates Savers® into one of the city’s busiest retail and lifestyle corridors.

Three weeks later, on 21 August, the Marsden Park Thrift Superstore opened in Sydney’s north-west growth corridor. Anchoring a new retail precinct on Richmond Road, with Ikea just minutes away.

The new openings follow a landmark 18 months for Savers®, which saw the retailer successfully launch into the New South Wales market. Camperdown and Marsden Park now mark its fourth and fifth Sydney stores, reflecting the scale of demand for sustainable, affordable retail across the city.

Michael Fisher, Managing Director at Savers® Australia, said the response in New South Wales highlights how quickly thrift has become part of the mainstream retail mix.

“We entered the New South Wales market just over a year ago, and the response from Sydney’s thrift shoppers has been incredible,” Mr Fisher said.

“There’s a growing appetite here for secondhand – Australians are actively seeking more affordable and sustainable ways to shop, and Savers® meets that demand at scale, with quality and accessibility.

“Our expansion reflects that momentum, and each site has been chosen to ensure Savers® is embedded in high-traffic, high-growth precincts. That means we’re not just present in Sydney but playing a role in shaping how Large Format Retail evolves to meet new consumer expectations.”

The two new openings come as recent Savers-commissioned research revealed that secondhand shopping is more popular than ever. In New South Wales, 87% of adults say they have engaged in thrift shopping, while 42% of Australians cite the treasure-hunting experience as a key driver[1].

With a 27-year history of operating in Australia, the new stores also continue Savers’ legacy as a leading secondhand destination, where the majority of items are priced under $10 (as averaged across all categories).

Beyond its retail impact, Savers’ Australian network diverts more than 9.1 million kilograms of reusable items from landfill each year (FY2024). The company also accepts donations of pre-loved clothing and household goods on behalf of its not-for-profit partners and pays them for those items, helping fund critical community programs. Over the past five years (FY2020–2024), Savers has paid more than $20 million to its Australian not-for-profit partners.
