Large Format Retailers step up in fight against COVID

Two of Australia’s largest retail brands are lending a helping hand in the fight against COVID, supporting the detection of COVID-19 and assisting efforts towards the 70% double vaccinated goal.

IKEA is working with NSW Health to host a temporary drive-through COVID-19 testing site on the ground level carpark of IKEA Tempe.

“We are proud to be supporting the detection of COVID-19 in Sydney’s inner west by hosting the Laverty Pathology pop-up clinic with NSW Health at the IKEA Tempe site,” said an IKEA spokesperson.

“The location is familiar to local IKEA customers and many people in the area and offers convenience for the community to access testing services at this difficult time.

“We will continue to host the clinic at IKEA Tempe as long as it remains a need for the community.”

The testing site will be open daily 8am – 4 pm from Monday 21 June.

Entry to the temporary testing site can be accessed via Bellevue Street and will be clearly sign-posted from the Princes Hwy at Tempe.

Bunnings also supported the launch of Australia’s first drive-through vaccination hub in August by providing access to its former Melton store.

The store’s former timberyard and nursery is now an innovative, convenient, and safe place for the local community to get vaccinated.

Across the ditch, in a similar format, Bunnings is playing a small role in the community vaccination roll-out to the Hibiscus Coast community in New Zealand by providing access to the Silverdale store car park for a drive-through hub.

In addition, Bunnings recently worked with one of their workplace health providers to set up hubs at some stores located in western Sydney LGAs of concern to offer team members and trade customers an easy and convenient way to get vaccinated.

Both IKEA and Bunnings recognise the safety of their teams, customers, and the local communities in which they operate is their number one priority and are actively exploring ways to support COVID-detection and the vaccine rollout.
