Strong uptake for 15th edition of the Large Format Retail Directory as sector surpasses $102 billion

Released earlier this year, the Large Format Retail Directory 2024/25 has been met with strong demand across the industry, reflecting both the value of the publication and the ongoing strength of the Large Format Retail sector.
Now in its 15th year, the Directory is a joint initiative of the Large Format Retail Association (LFRA) and Deep End Services. It continues to serve as the definitive resource for retailers, developers, investors, property owners and service providers across Australia and New Zealand.
With national Large Format Retail sales surpassing $102 billion in 2024 – accounting for a quarter of all retail sales in Australia – the sector remains a vital part of the national economy, supporting over 470,000 jobs in categories including furniture, electrical, hardware, and homewares.
First published in 2009, the Large Format Retail Directory has become an essential tool for retailers, developers, investors, property owners, and service suppliers. The publication’s success is a direct result of the continued support from industry, underscoring the sector’s ongoing growth and influence.
Large Format Retail Association CEO Philippa Kelly says the industry has shown resilience and has continued to grow despite challenging economic conditions.
“Despite softer economic conditions, the industry remains a vital contributor to the Australian economy, with record sales, high levels of employment, and ongoing growth in retail space.
“This Directory not only highlights the sector’s success but also serves as a key resource to help drive future growth and opportunities.”
The Large Format Retail Association, as the national peak industry body, advocates for key reforms in energy policy, competition, and urban planning, with a particular focus on improving Australia’s planning and zoning systems to provide greater clarity and consistency for the Large Format Retail sector.
Justin Ganly, Managing Director of Deep End Services, contributes his expertise in sales forecasting, networking planning, and feasibility analysis.
This year’s edition of the Directory reveals a record number of operating Large Format Retail centres, with 367 centres now listed – up from 351 in the previous edition.
These centres account for an impressive 6.1 million square meters of retail space and counting. Vacancy rates across Australian Large Format Retail centres remain low, with only a slight increase from 2.5% in 2023/24 to 3.1% in 2024/25.
In addition, the Directory highlights 37 non-operating centres currently under construction or with approved plans, potentially adding an additional 471,000 square meters of retail space to the sector.
The publication also provides an overview of the largest Large Format Retail precincts in Australia, with Osborne Park in Perth retaining its position as the largest precinct by Large Format Retail floorspace.
The Directory is in digital or print formats.
Now’s the time to snap one up and ensure your team has access to the most comprehensive and current data available in the sector.
