Lighting upgrade supports JB Hi-Fi’s Melbourne Central flagship

JB Hi-Fi’s Melbourne Central store in the heart of the CBD received a lighting upgrade last year designed to reflect the brand’s energy, clarity and functionality.
Delivered in collaboration with commercial lighting partner Amphis, the brief was to implement a scheme that would provide clean, functional lighting while improving visibility and in-store experience across JB Hi-Fi’s broad product range.
The solution includes a mix of Vega track lights and linear profiles, delivering uniform lighting throughout the large-format retail space. Key zones – such as point-of-sale counters, promotional bays and high-traffic pathways – were carefully illuminated to support navigation, engagement and visual merchandising.
“Retail lighting needs to do more than just light the space,” said Dave Sheils, Managing Director at Amphis. “It needs to enhance the experience, support brand consistency, and ensure the space works for everyone who uses it. For JB Hi-Fi, that meant balancing brightness and comfort across a highly active retail footprint.”
With strong performance requirements and a fast-paced build program, the project also highlights the importance of adaptability and technical collaboration in delivering retail lighting at scale.
Carefully lit display zones and consistent visual cues throughout the space showcase how targeted lighting design can help create a seamless, enjoyable shopping experience – right in the middle of the city.
