CBRE podcast explores the strength and resilience of Large Format Retail

CBRE has released a new episode of its Talking Property with CBRE podcast, alongside its Large Format Retail Outlook report, exploring the scale, strength and continued evolution of Australia’s Large Format Retail sector.

Representing more than a quarter of all retail sales in Australia, Large Format Retail is a major share of the consumer purse and continues to demonstrate resilience in changing market conditions.

In the episode, CBRE’s National Director of Large Format Retail Leasing, Shane Cook, and CBRE’s Pacific Head of Retail Property Management, Sheree Griff, unpack what is driving the sector’s momentum, from strong tenant demand and low vacancy to evolving consumer expectations and the shift towards convenience, lifestyle, wellness, pet, entertainment and home categories.

The discussion points to a sector that has moved well beyond its traditional “bulky goods” identity, with Large Format Retail increasingly positioned as a resilient, convenience-led and lifestyle-focused part of the retail market.

Mr Cook and Ms Griff also explore the sector’s investment appeal, the impact of planning and supply constraints, and why physical retail remains highly relevant in categories where customers want to see, touch, compare and experience products in person.

For Large Format Retail Association members, the episode provides a timely snapshot of the forces shaping the sector, from retail resilience and investment demand to changing customer expectations and the ongoing need for planning settings that support the future evolution of Large Format Retail.
